NSW Dedicated Rally Registration Scheme

As many will know, CAMS along with AASA and AMSAG have been working for some time to arrive at a Dedicated Rally Registration Scheme that will cover all bodies.

The final proposal has now been forwarded to the NSW RTA, for consideration. This process has two areas for consideration. The first process is for the documentation to be reviewed by the Registration and Vehicle Management division of the RTA. Once they have approved the documentation it will be passed to the Centre for Road Safety. This centre is the policy area for the RTA.

Once the Centre for Road Safety has approved the proposed documentation, the scheme will be put into action.

The key points of the proposed scheme are:

• Special number plates, which will identify the vehicle as a Rally Car

• Vehicles to be compliance with a rally car category (group)

• Imported vehicles as well as Australian Compliant vehicles to be covered by the Scheme

• Competitor must hold a relevant competition licence (Clubman Rally Licence or higher for CAMS)

• Vehicle must be covered by a vehicle Log Book under category 3 vehicles (Touring) and be covered by a rally code eg 3CPRC etc.

• The registered owner must show evident of belonging to recognised body

• The vehicle registration will not be transferable

• The registration will be covered by a “Conditions of Use”, which will be required to be carried in the vehicle at all times.

The inspection and administration process will be much the same as is currently in place, with inspection “stations” being nominated to help cover the needs of competitors.
